At the recent 'Walk on the Wild Side' event at Bolton Museum, people were invited to add their memories of Seven Acres onto our memory tree. Here are a selection of them.........
I dont have a single favourite memory of Seven Acres - there are just too many! Watching four dragonflies fighting over a pond, looking for newts, toads and frogs, seeing herons and kingfishers catching fish in the brook, standing beneath a hovering kestrel, seeing a weasel running away, stumbling over a scurrying hedgehog, being inspected by inquisitive bats, seeing my first deer ...... I'd need a whole forest rather than a tree!
Seeing and hearing all the bats on 7 Acres
I remember it being overgrown and looking like a tip back in the early 80s
Going pond dipping at Seven Acres because we found a lot of funny creatures
Happy memories of our art group visiting 7 acres on an outdoor painting project
Picking blackberries!
I remember sledging with my friends down the steep slope from Crompton Way into the field at 7 Acres. This was many years ago - the 'sledging slope' is now covered with trees - no good for sledging now but very beautiful
Cleaner, fresh air. The visual beauty of seasonal change. Looking after important habitats.
I love watching Swifts and Martins swooping and feeding above the river in summer.
Playing near the stream, looking at the wild orchis as a child. Taking my beautiful dog Zac to play and run wild in lovely surroundings
I liked the lichens!
The thing what is nice about country walks is catching the butterflies. I got a purple and blue one.
My memory of wildlife was seeing a family of deer so near to Blackburn Rd Bolton
My earliest memory of the 7 Acres is being taken there for a walk with my Dad and our new puppy, Rusty, a golden cocker spaniel - more than 50 years ago!
My earliest memory of wildlife was looking at flowers with my mum
I have lived in the countryside and when I was wee and I kept finding a weird rock. I covered it with eyes!
